OK I'm looking at a pre anny parts camera and the focusing tracks appear to be identical to the ones on my 5x7 speeder(the unfortunate "hull" isn't a 5x7 or 4x5 for that matter---looks like a fractionally smaller format) Since I don't have my 5x7 with me to compare(and it's rails bind(like they might be a bit bent) when pushing the front standard inside the box, I was wondering if any of yous guys know if these rails were a "one size fits all" affair or not. Could it be a donor for a "focusing rail transplant?"

Thanks!

Sorry for the delay getting back. A senior moment overcame me. The 5X7 rail is indeed quite a bit larger than any others. My 5X7 has the same problem - tight at the rear of the bed rail. Probably due to someone trying to close the camera with the standard partly out on the bed rail. If the top rail lip isn't broken off, but just bent up, you may be able to peen it down and file it level. Someone had made a repair on mine but its still a bit tight at the very rear of the bed rail. It looks like only about 3/4 of an inch of the lip was affected. I will just live with it. These parts would be very hard to find.

All rails are not equal, each size camera has different rail lengths, not all bodies are built with the same depth for the lens std!
If the inside rails are only broken on the outer end, turn them around so that the good end is out! And if the rails do not line up correctly (to hi to low), both short rails have shims to level them....
inner and outer rails must be level with each other...if you need more shims to level them, hobby shops sell brass shim packs and they can be cut easily with small scissors! Large end of existing shims go to the back.........Bert

Thanks! I was afraid that would have been the answer.
