I haven't used the camera is quite some time. Playing around trying to refamiliarize myself. Now the shutter will not release. It was working fine. Can anyone help?

Well it depends on the shutter. Is it stuck open? If so you probably engaged the "press release" button.
On Supermatic shutters recocking will close the lens and it should fire normally.
On Graphex and copal shutters there is a lever at rougly 4 o'clock that needs to be moved up (more like 3:30) that will close the shutter.
Copal shutters have a triangular lever at 2 o'clock that does the same thing.
If the lens is closed, and it won't fire, then it might be time to have it repaired.
There maybe other options but its best if we knew exactly what shutter you were using.

This post should really be in the lens or Graphic forum. I'll leave it hear until you respond and then move it to the Lens forum.
