i have just got a new 127 symmmar and a maxwell screen.
i am having problems getting the screen and range finder set up.
both are out of focus.
whats the layout for the screens at the moment i have the lens then a thin sheet of glass 1mm thich and then the ground side
is that right?

| The ground side of the ground glass should face the lens.
If you put in a Maxwell fresnel, you may be in trouble. The standard issue fresnel is supposed to go between the ground glass and the lens, and the focusing panel is machined to position the GG the right distance from the lens.
If you're starting with a focusing panel that never had a fresnel -- the bosses on which the GG sits will be several mm high, won't show signs of having been milled down -- you're doomed. Best thing to do in this case is to put the Maxwell screen behind the GG. Alternatively, send focusing panel and Maxwell screen to Fred Lustig to have the panel machined to suit the screen.
