One of my new minature Speed Graphics has a good focal plane shutter, it seems to work great, I really don't how to check it. The other has no back shutter at all. It is the best camera with a good lens in it. How difficult is it to move the back shutter from one camera to another -- for a non mechanically minded person? Nick =stone fingers."
Second question: Is it possible to change the spring back to Graphlok back on a 2.25 x 3.25 Speed Graphic. I read that it is possible on a 4 x 5. |

Graflex made conversion backs for Mini Speeds, but the back on my 1946 camera seems to have come off a 23 Pacemaker Speed. So yes, they can be switched.
As can the shuttter curtians. The exact procedure in in the manual. It's not hard at all.

Is there posted a free version of the manual. Is that the repair manual? Or is it in the manual that comes with the camera. When the camera arrives this coming week, it has the original manual that came with the camera among the flash bulbs and other pot pourri.
Thanks

| Further on this point, my 2x3 Speed's Graflok back is (a) a Pacemaker back and (b) came from a Mini. One of the many ways in which the Mini differs from the 2x3 Pacemaker Speed is in where the flash sync terminal for the focal plane shutter is located. On Pacemaker's, its located on what I always thing of as the right side of the camera in among the shutter speed setting devices. On the Mini, it is on the upper left of the back. I've seen correct Mini Grafloks with the FPS sync terminal in the right place; the only cost of using a Pacemaker Graflok on a Mini is the loss of flash sync for the FPS.
Cheers,

As far as moving the shutter my friend Twelvethumbs can do it blindfolded, but if you can't use a SMALL scrwedriver then don't even attempt it.
The curtain will need to be detached from the top roller then squarely reattached to the roller once in the other body and gear timing is important.

Sounds like doing it the hard way. Why not replace the whole assembly, roller and all? Thats what I'd do, and have done.

Is there a diagram somewhere showing how to change the whole assy? Or could you post or email me the instructions on how to do it? Sounds like a simple enough job.

I only have the manual for a Pacemaker series camera. The instructions for shutter repair/replacement will be different but simular to the MINI Speed. Post your email here or in a private message and I'll send you jpeg scans of the approiate pages from the service manual.
