Last weekend I finally got around to calibrating the Kalart (side mounted) rangefinder on my speed graphic. I've got it tracking pretty much spot on from infinity down to 4 feet, but at closer than 4 feet it starts to lose it. Before I waste any more time playing with it, I want to make sure that it even is designed to track at under 4 feet. Anyone know?
I plan on eventually retrofitting a laser pointer to replace the focus-spot - I've been taking pictures of every step, and would be happy to post some additional details if anyone is interested.
Cheers,
--Tim

I'd be surprised if the Kalart RF were accurate much below 4 ft. It will handle that distance, and does, on the 2¼x3¼ models. I never tried it for closer distances, because the parallax imparted by the rather long rangefinder base starts making it difficult to superimpose the images -- you're seeing two increasingly different views of the same thing! |

There is no adjustment on the Kalart to focus closer than four feet, at least there are no instructions in the Kalart manual for doing so. If yours is "spot on" from four feet on out to infinity, count your blessings and enjoy the convenience! |
