Come this saturday, a friend and myself are setting off on a road trip. Central Wisconsin to Los Angeles in as many days as we feel like, and as far as I know, no real idea of how we are going to get there. Just go until we reach it I guess stopping to photograph whatever looks interesting.
Anyways, after a thorough review of my equipment, I've decided that the only thing worthy to pack (besides clothing) is my Speed Graphic, tri-pod and about 115 sheets of tri-x, and about 15 more of Provia. Should be a blast. A car, A speed, and half the US as a studio. I'll be sure to do plenty of handhelds while I'm at it.

Go for it!
Make sure to pack a K2 and 25A filter, for those endless western Americian skylines.
I envy you.

I have a 25a, but my K2 is 48mm and I have my Speed rigged up to take 52mm, so I won't get much use out of that one if I bring it.
Actually, we are at least planning to head west through the Twin Cities and go through south Dakota to the bad lands and Devil's Tower, but after that Its all open I think. Still a long haul. |

There's US101 from the Oregon/Washington border south thru Nothern California where you are engulfed by Redwood forest then to California Highway 1 to LA. Highway 1 hugs the coast 95% of the way. It's windy and twisty, 300 feet up and 30 feet inland from the surf's edge.
Stop at a public library and log on and drop us a line along the way.

JoePhoto....
Thanks for the info about the event on Sunday. Geez, I might just have to drive down from Plymouth with my Graphic, bound for Sandwich & Buzzards Bay. Wouldn't that be something. There'll be atleast 2 spectators wielding big bulky Graphics along the canal! |

Well,
I wish you the best of luck & light, and trouble-free motoring!
When my folks drove out West in 1999, I went along but I didn't have a Speed then. Wish I had've!

If you somehow make your way up to Northwestern Montana around Glacier Park,
Give me a hollar, perhaps, we could shake hands and say hi!

And personally pick up my new GG.
And the Corn Palace, I remember going there back in 1990. If I remember correctly, it was the most boring tourist stop I've ever made. My friend already brought it up as a place to see and I told him the same, though we'll probably go to it just to verify my memory.
