Hi-
Apologies in advance as this must have been asked before, but I can't seem to find the answer: can a 4x5 Crown fold closed with a 135mm or 150mm such as the apo-Symmar-L, apo-Sironar-S mounted?
Thanks,
Rick |

I measure the total interior distance, from the bed to the back, of a "Crown Graphic" as 85mm. Of that, 45 mm. is behind the lensboard and 40 mm. is in front of it -- not counting the thickness of the lensboard, of course.
The drawing I found of a 150 mm. "Apo-Symmar" shows the shutter and front group extending 33.6 mm. forward of the lensboard, and the rear group extending 20.1 mm. from the back of the shutter. Total length, then, is 53.7 mm. It looks to me as though it ought to fit comfortably in a "Crown" with the bed closed.
The "Apo-Sironar" specification I found given a total length of 57.4 mm., without detail about how that length is distributed between the front and rear groups. Even so, with more than an inch to spare, it ought to fit too.
This kind of calculation tends to go awry, so I'd definitely advise eyeballing the lens in the camera front before committing to anything... |

Greetings,
I have a 135mm Sinaron S (re-badged Rodenstock) mounted on a copal 0 shutter. It fits my 4x5 crown graphic - no problem.
You might check out my earlier query on this forum regarding this lens from March 2004 for additional comments.
