The Century grip only works on the LEFT side of the camera, where the tripod hole is. It needs that hole because the rest of the mounting hardware is only for alignment, not support.
Don't confuse the XL grip with the Century grip. The XL grip will NOT mount on the Century. You can id the Century grip by the 2 "fingers" which fit in the lower handle lug of the Century.
The grip itself [not hardware] IS reversible. Graflex made a left side grip for the XL [for airborne photography] so you could just turn the grip portion around. The hardware, though, for the Century, is not reversable.
So, the grip will rotate with the camera when you shoot verticals.
