I have an old 6 1/2 inch f=7.7 Luxar Anastigmat lens in a Regno shutter that I recently dug out of a box of old junk I've had for years. I cleaned the shutter and it actually works (2 stops slow, consistantly). This is a four element lens with all the elements separate. I can find no info on this lens anywhere. Anyone know what it is, what format it is supposed to cover, and is it worth mounting on a lensboard for my Century Graphic?
Thanks.

The only info in the book is:
Made by Luxar Germany
Luxar Anastigmat 6" f/7.7 (Auto shutter) and covers 4x5
They also made a 7.5cm f/3.5 for 4x5. Wonder how good that one is???
I would say that if the glass looks okay, mount it and give it a try. Somtimes these old things can be suprising.

By design this is a dialyte type of lens. Common lenses of this design are the Celor, Artar, and 203 f7.7 Ektar. Common uses are for graphic arts copy work and table top photography (and yes Ansel used graphic arts lenses for landscape)
4 air spaced lenses leave a lot of places for light to go astray, so clean the lenses well inside and out, keep the longest lens shade you can find on it and you'll be amazed what it can do. |

Thanks guys. Looks like it's worth playing with. Now, if I could just get lucky and find a shutter with closer to working right speeds so I can do faster then 25th/sec if I ever need it...
