I've just got this lens but I find that I can't use the infinity stops to adjust the range finder as the infinity stops just go onto the jaw of the bed to get a sharp focus. So is it impossible to do so?

You don't say what your camera format is (may we presume 2x3?) or what rangefinder (Kalart?), but if it is Kalart then I'm afraid it won't work with anything shorter than a 101mm lens, according to their literature.

While the instructions say 101mm, I've seen factory Centurys with an 80mm lens and found that a 23 Pace speedgraphic was too deep to use the 80 and the kalart together.

I think the 65 is a bit too short for the Kalart. Probably the best thing to do would be to find the hyper focal distance and set the infinity stop for that. For these short lenses you'll need a Century or Pacemaker Crown, a Minispeed won't do.
You set a single infinity stop on the handle side rail inside the body, BEHIND the standard.

In use, you would pull the standard out, reach in and flip up the stop, then push the standard back till it hit the stop.

Um, Les, I think that a 65/6.8 Angulon won't make infinity on a 2x3 Pacemaker Speed. Century or 2x3 Pacemaker Crown, yes, Speed of any age or size, no.

Interestingly, 65 Super Angulons and Ilex Acugons WILL make infinity on a 2x3 Pacemaker Speed, but the camera can't be closed with the lens in place.

Also, when I had Fred Lustig set up my 2x3 Speed for a 4" lens that sat entirely in front of the board, so made infinity with the front standard on the inner rails, he refused to adopt the one infinity stop solution you recommended. Said it would give unintended swing.

What he did, after I suggested it, was set the infinity stops on the outer rails and make a spacer to go between front standard and stops so that with the spacer in place the lens was at infinity. This spacer is very useful, I'm going to have another one made for my Century, whose rails aren't as far apart as the Speed's.

Cheers,

Dan

I'll agree with Fred in that you have to be careful not to put it in a twist, and frankly if you can keep up with the spacer, it's a lot easier than the "one stop two-step" But that's what Graflex recommended at the time.
