Just picked up two of these for next to nothing on UK ebay.
Ive read that some fitted these to 4x5 series D Graflex.
If so I wonder how its done.
The Pentac screws onto its lensboard and the screw collar is too big to fit inside the Graflex.
And it doesnt seem to be removable, Any suggestions apart from cutting it off
thanks
g
BTW the Pentac is known for its softness especially wide open but thats fine with me.

| Oh. You're the one who snagged them. Are they in better condition than the listing indicated?
I don't know the dimensions of lens or board, but even so I expect that a good photographer's machinist can make an externally threaded bushing that will pass through the board and screw into the back of the lens. The board is clamped between the back of the bushing (yes, it is stepped) and a thin retaining ring.
This is how the late Steve Grimes put 4"/2.0 and 12"/4 Taylor Hobson lenses on 2x3 Pacemaker boards for me. Adam Gau, who's now in charge at SKGrimes has allowed that he could do the same to mount my 6"/1.9 Dallmeyer Super Six (NOT the one that's on eBay now).
If this approach won't work, there's always a cup-shaped adapter. With my lenses on a 2x3 Pacemaker Speed, back focus is a small issue, but it shouldn't be a problem with your gear.
BTW, the Vade Mecum says that good Pentacs are usable wide open, and that WW-II vintage ones were made in haste with poor QC and tend not to be good.
Have fun,

I may have nearly solved this by finding an old lensboard I didnt realise I had.
And using the SG instead of the graflex
The hole is just about the right size and I can get three of the four screws to fit,
Theres no screw on the back of the lens to use with a retaining ring.
The lens only stops down to F11 its uncoated
The lens seems OK wide open and I can screw 67mm filters on the back.A 67 yellow may help.
(Dan, any comments on the wisdom of this)
With a little sawing and filing I should be ready to try things out soon.

There were two lenses. I made up one good lens from the two. The seller said one had a frozen iris, but when I tried to turn it it gave straight away.It has a few scratches and cleaning marks so is not too good.
But with my current interest in Paolo Roversi,Sally Mann and Baron de Meyer it may be just what im looking for
thanks

| Neat!
Yellow filter? Don't see why not, but the lenses are supposed to have been reasonably color corrected so it shouldn't improve sharpness. I think this is a "try it and please tell us if it made any difference."
Cheers,
