If you were going to sell cameras, would it be ecomonically feasable to have the lens (CLA), and how much of the cost would you recover? I know the buyer would appreciate it, but should I just disclose the problem and let them worry about it. Most of the problems are in the sync contacts of Graflex shutters. I have no idea how much a simple cleaning and sync fix would cost. Russ |

Most CLA's run around $50 by the time you get it back home, and I don't think you could sell a $50 Optar in a Graphex shutter for $100.
They might appreciate it, but they won't pay for it. |

The only time I've seen CLA make sense for sellers was for the East European sellers. It's likely they pay so little for it or do it themselves. Even then it's only because the seller has a good rep and can be trusted. If an unknown seller claimed something had been CLA I would use many grains of salt. |

I just asked SK Grimes about a CLA on an old Kodak Supermatic and the estimate is $80 so be warned. My lens may not be worth the $80 so it shall sit for a while. |

If you take your Chevy to the Cadillac dealer for a tune-up you'll pay more than at an independent or the Chevy dealer also.

| Um, he just did my 80/6.3 WF Ektar's Supermatic for around that price. I think it was worth it because my 80/6.3 is a pretty good lens and another one in a suspect until received and tested shutter would have cost a bunch more than the CLA.
On the other hand, I have the offer of a set of 80/2.8 Planar cells what needs a shutter etc., and am very tempted even though I shoot 2.25 x 3.25, not 2.25 x 2.25, and the book on that lens is that it won't cover the larger format. Putting 'em in shutter will probably cost more than CLAing the 80/6.3 did, and I KNOW it covers 2.25 x 3.25. I think I'm gonna get 'em anyway and put 'em in the drawer.
Cheers,
Dan |
