Boys, be nice!!!
I just did quite a search and couldn't find anything either. A lot of bad links and "404" errors in the site index... I thought I remembered reading something "official" quite a long time ago?
But as has been said, those are the rules and we all abide by them. And we've done so for a long time with simple and polite reminders from other users of the forum. No reason to get heated about it. There's simply no wanting or selling allowed here. It doesn't matter how the original post in this thread was interpreted as there was just a polite mention of the rules. There was nothing nasty said and the thread wasn't deleted. It's how we all manage here, with polite suggestions and reminders.
That all said, it might be nice if there was an official notice laying around somewhere that we could point to so individuals don't have to take the heat for it. Maybe one of the moderators could post a 'sticky' or something?
Ah-well. None of my business anyway. I just had a bit more typing left in the fingers and this all came out of them

Sorry if I sent anyone on a wild goose chase. It was there shortly after I joined but I can't find it now.
I didn't think to check that it was still posted before suggesting the first time visitors forum for the rules.

The Help Board link on the left side of the Home Page has (no sales) under it. I too remember seeing "rules for posting" way back when....

As I started this thread I should tell you the outcome.
I posted asking if anyone was breaking a Graflex & might have the parts, at no point did I say I was prepared to pay, neither did I ask would they sell. So that certainly doesn't break this forums rules.
If you can't ask for help then what is the section here for. That question is aimed at users & posters on this site, and not the site owners/administrators.
As it happens an extrordinarily helpful member of another site did a lot of searching through his contacts for me, and came up with two possible sources of the parts.
One I knew anyway as I've bought glass screens from him, the other proved to be a great source of Graflex parts, and he had 2 sets of the parts I was after.
I recieved the parts on Monday, 6th Nov, and perfect, actually the seller added all the ancillary screws, shims etc as well.
The company was Equinox Photographic, run by John Welch, I called him from here in the UK, and what a great guy, so hlelpful.
So I got what I was after, but in the meantime realised that many members of this site need a reality check.
I'm from the UK so have a far better understanding of the English language compared to anyone from our ex colonies.
No sales means no sales, it does not preclude asking for help from fellow membemers.
Unless some of you change your attitudes you don't deserve any help from anyone.
I should add that at no point have I had any adverse commemts from this sites owners.
Ian

Well Ian, two of us here understand the English language. Glad you found the parts you were seeking.
I didn't want to open this can of worms, but since I was the one who initially sprang to IanG's defense, here goes: (1)I recently helped one member of this board to acquire a 31.5 mm series 6 slip ring, after he posted that he was having difficulty finding one. The circumstances were remarkably similar to IanG's: indication of need, no offer or solicitation to buy, sell, or trade. We communicated by private messages and I *sold* (horrors!) him the item for a nominal sum. (2) Should members who are in business making and selling items for view cameras post their commercial tag lines under their signature on posts to the board? I for one don't mind this at all, and I am a happy user of the fine product in question (as are many others here, I'm sure), but let's be fair, guys, and not have pots calling kettles black---please! |

Well Henry,
I know your talking about me, but I have never publically offered to sell anything on this system and I don't have any link to my website in my signature line, in all the years I have been posting here, I have never once had anybody make a comment about my signature line..
On this issue, there seems to be a difference of opinion, which is fine, everybody reads and interpets things differently.

For one with such a command of the english language,
1). What is gthe? Merriam-Websters Collegiate Dictionary does not list it. Is there a dictionary in publication that does?
2). Is not a sentence or question suppose to end with a period or some form of a punctuation mark?
Just asking.

That's Merriam-Webster's . . .

The word used in this idiom is supposed. A question is a sentence. A question should not end with a period.

Guys, come on now...
Yes, we have all skirted the nosell or wanted issue here on many occassions. AND, we have all been reminded of the forum's policies! I do not remember anyone taking offence at this until now. As a matter of fact, we can still see the remnants of the last run around under Special Notices with the "For S-a-l-e by Graflex.org". Soon after the graflexchange was started so people had a place for such messages. It's all gone around the block more times then we can remember. And we still skirt it whenever we can and all usually have a laugh over it. Ian _may_ have a command of the "English language" but he obviously does not have a very good sense of humor or anything approaching tollerance.
Since I have noticed major blow-ups on the other photo forums lately, maybe it's just the season or full moon? So let's be civil, forget about one person who takes things a bit too seriously and then get on with our discussions...
As far as previous, current and future offences go, I am right in there with the rest of them That's with skirting the forum and the English language of which I do command well enough. I simply don't bother in forums where it just takes too much time...
By the way Henry, was #1 me?
