After a request from a very nice person, I finally got around to putting a scan of my Super cams up for download. They're under "Graflex manuals" at http://www.southbristolviews.com

The cams in the jpg image are 90mm, 135mm, 250mm 15", 210mm and a really bad 150mm.


Now the futility...

I just finished trying to make a 210mm cam from the scan. It happens to be the worst of the images (except for the homemade 150 which I wouldn't suggest anyoone use as a template).

As I found out, it's size isn't too bad, but the edges are a bit difficult to define. So what I did was cut out the cam image from the paper and use it as a template to cut a piece of .005 brass sheet. Why .005 brass? Well, it's the only size I have right here and it cuts very easily with good scissors... It also is just rigid enough to work in the camera for testing!

Clamping the two pieces together and using a good pair of shears helps a lot.

What I found out was that being off even a minute amount throws the rangefinder way off. But the thin brass is easy to trim or file as long as you don't go too far... On my second try I got a brass template done that was just off "a bit". A minute with a fine file and it's now "close enough"

The main thing is really to make the template just a bit large and then use a fine file to trim it right. Infinity is easy on a Super because it's simply where the rails stop at the back. Going forward from there is the problem... But the closer you get, the easier it is to check


Just thought I'd pass along these few tips. Good luck to anyone who wishes to amke their own... I think I'll be buying the 210 cam as soon as it's available...

Is there a method to the madness in adjusting a cam to your invidual lenses? My MPP is cammed for a 150mm lens, yet it does not match either 150mm lens that I own... And when I adjust it to better match one, it still does not match the other?

I have read in various forums on the net that some camera manufacturers cam's were set up at the factory to match individual lenses, but I have often wondered if there is a procedure (other than fit by trial) or a mathmatical formula that one could follow?
