I am interested in using filters for my Speed Graphic.
I went to a camera shop and they had slip rings that fit over the lense. The slip ring had slits in it that spread out over the lense. It was threaded which appears to accept filters.
Is this the type of ring I should use for filters?

Yep. Slip this filter on the camera and the series VI filters will fit inside the ring. Now you'll need either a retaining ring or a Series VI shade.

And, of course, you'll need the series VI filters, which aren't made anymore. At least not affordable ones. Look for used ones in the "useless and obsolete parts" drawers of your area camera stores, and at camera shows. You are fortunate to have found the slip ring right off; ask at that store first for the filters. Another route to take is the 44-49, 44-52, or 44-55 step-ring approach (the series VI thread is 44mm). This has been discussed several times on the board. B&H in New York lists some step-rings ( http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ ) but no 44s at the moment. Sorry I can't be of more help. I obtained all of my series VI and step-ring stuff at camera shows in my area over the years, but I see much less of it now that uBuy has conquered the world.

Thanks guys.
I found not one but two snap rings and retaining rings so I bought both.
Also I bought red, green and yellow filter series 6 - that was the extent of their series 6 filters.
WIth your help I was able to figure out how the snap ring, filter and retaining rings work.
Thanks
