Hi,
I have a CG 4x5, and noticed the rangefinder doesn't work anymore. The two focus "screens" don't seem to move.
Is there anything I can check myself?
The rangefinder is the top mounted one.
Is it safe to disassemble, or will I get springs flying all over the place?
Marco

You can remove the plastic housing of the rangefinder without freeing any springs or other small parts, but the problem may be farther down, with the cam and follower on the underside of the camera's top deck, or even with the mechanical transmission that couples the bed to the slotted cylinder that carries the cam. It isn't a complicated system, but parts of it are rather inaccessible! |

Check the plunger at the bottom rt of the rails..rack the lensboard out, and work the plunger with your finger (sometimes gets bent) Check the cam also, it might be out of place! If you are still having problems, email me at

I'll fiddle with the RF this week, if I can't get it to work, I'll be back
