Hi,
I was just reading through the FAQ section on the Grafmatics and wanted to add some more information. There are two types of 4x5 grafmatics that are almost identical. One is labelled 1268, as per the FAQ, and there is another type that is unlabelled.
The difference is that where the 1268 locks up solid after the sixth frame, the other type only locks the dark slide and the "tray" where the septums sit will still slide out of the body of the grafmatic.
Apart from the lack of the "1268" printed on the back, the only visible clue is that the 1268 has two screws on each side at the handle end, while the other one has three. The third screw goes through the outer casing of the grafmatic, while the other two (in both versions) are in the frame.
I have a dozen of the 1268 type and three of the plain sort and the behaviour is consistent amongst all of them, so I don't believe that it is a case of broken/worn parts.
