I just purchased a 3x4 Anniversary Speed Graphic camera from the big auction site. On inspecting it, I noticed that the tension knob is rotating in a bent fashion, so I suspect a bent shaft. I have no way to test the speeds.

Will this affect the speed of the focal plane shutter? Can it be easily fixed and if so, any instructions on repairing it or a service center I can ship it to?

Brian

Download the Anniversary Service manual at:

and the instruction manual if you need it:

Now, with the tension at 1 and the curtain at O trip the shutter with the camera up side down. Does the curtain close and the wind key will turn in the direction of the wind arrow only?
No: shutter needs servicing or bend is affecting shutter operation.
Yes: turn the tension to 6, will the curtain wind to its smallest aperture opening and lock ready for use?
Yes: shutter is operating properly.
No: shutter requires service.

The tension knob is threaded onto the spring tensioned lower curtain roller shaft. The shaft is 1/8 inch brass. A slight bend at the knob end of the tensioning shaft should not be a problem mechanically. A major bend could be and the shaft might break on attempting to straighten.

I can service the shutter for you if needed.
