I have a 3x4 Super D and it came with a 6x9 rollfilm back that appears functional, but I remember reading that there were film flatness problems. Can I switch out the mechanism such as those on the RH holders to obviate this? Are there other fixes?

If it is a 22, its shell will have a gate for nominal 6x6 and the film carriage that gives 12 shots per roll. Did you mean "23?"

Graflex' solution to the alleged film flatness problem was to put pin rollers ad the ends of the gate, that is, in the shell. Swapping the insert won't do this but inserts will swap between shells.

www.skgrimes.com will, for a fee, put pin rollers in a shell. Graflex didn't make roll holder shells with pin rollers to fit Graflex SLRs, so grimes' service may be your best bet. I don't know how much they charge.

FWIW, I have a 2x3 RB Ser B that I've used a little. Its 2x3 roll holder doesn't seem to have film flatness problems. Try yours out before doing anything.

Film thickness has changed over the years. A RH series RFH has pin rollers in the shell to aid in keeping film flat.
EDIT:
Disregard the following modification, it may damage your insert.

Open you RFH and remove the insert. There are two bars across the top and two bars across the bottom of the film opening. Replace the insert, remove the darkslide and look at the pressure plate through the film opening. Note that the top and bottom outer bars touch the pressure plate while the inner ones do not. Cut a piece of black card stock (110lb) or poster board that is .010 inch thick. Target has it http://www.target.com/p/BLK-PSTR-BRD-22X28-IN-POSTER-BOARD/-/A-14045951
Cut a piece to fit between the two outer rails and the length of the pressure plate and glue it to the pressure plate with contact cement or similar flexible glue.
