Just came from the fleamarket with a fine Davidson Star D tripod.
Google told me many models were made.
Mine is a light one, with 'twist-to-lock' legs.
Any idea about age ?
I wonder if it would be anachronic supporting a WWII Speed, I've seen pics of SC still photogs with alu tripods.
Thanks.

Georges

Are the legs black wrinkle finish?
Does it have an elevating center column? What foot style? It may be similar to the one I use all the time. Though I believe it's post war, I don't think it would be out of place, if it's the model I'm thinking of. I like mine. Light and easy to deal with. I think I paid 5 bucks for it a number of years ago.

Here it is Glenn.

I don't think it is an heresy.

Specialists ( Bruce, Laurent, Mark P, etc ), your opinion please.

That is essentially the same as mine. I think yours may be a little newer, though. Mine has black wrinkle finish legs and no detail around the top. Very plain. Other than that, it's identical. It's pretty solid, too.

Hi Georges,

I'm not sure how to date the Davidson Stars but the tripod certainly doesn't look of of place under your Anny Speed. A very nice combination.

Cheers,
Bruce

My father used one of these with his old telescope from the late 50s or early 60s, I dont know when he got the telescope. the scrwe locks for the leggs finaly wore out some time in the mid 80s, but the telescope was much heavier than any press style camera so you shouldnt have any problems with the longevity of your tripod.
