Greetings,

New to the forum. Looking forward to working with you folks.

I recently received as a birthday present from a colleague a nice Crown View (4x5 back). It is a lovely thing.

There are two parts I would like to acquire:

1. Locking knob for the back tilt.

2. Ground glass retaining spring.

I would appreciate it if anyone could point me to a source for these.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Doug

Sorry, I can't help you at all...

But, here's what I generally do when needing parts...

The knob can most probably be replaced by one from any good hardware store. I've found many replacement knobs in various sizes and some in brass that look close enough to originals to count. If you have one on the other side, take it with you for sizing and comparison.

For the retaining spring. You could either make one from sheet stock and files or check ebay. Look for the various 4x5 backs, especially the ones with broken or missing GG. They generally go very cheap. Just check the pics closely for something that matches. Also the 8x10 to 4x5 reducing backs. These also go very cheap without a GG and all it is is the 4x5 back screwed onto an 8x10 plate.

If you're more of a collector and wanting exact original parts, then you'll have to keep an eye open for a parts View.

One other thought. For the knob (and maybe the spring?). If it happens to be an odd size or shape, I think it's Richard Ritter who makes these custom for people...

Yes, I'll be on the lookout. Replacing it isn't really urgent, though.

Yes, I'll propbably make one from spring brass (door weatherstripping!).

No, I'm not realy trying to be that scrupulous.

Thanks so much.
