I dug out an old speed graphic from storage. It has a Kodak 127mm Ektar lens. I would like to use lights or maybe a flash with this camera. I was looking at this cord on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3865946203&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

It looks like it goes from the two prongs on the side of the lens two a household to Bipost. Will this trip the flash and will the lens Sync with the flash.

Thanks

Steve

Before you buy a cord off of uBuy, suggest you check out this site below. They can make up any combination of plugs and cables, and it'll be brand new and of highest quality. Lots of users on this board can testify to this.

http://paramountcords.com/synccords.asp

From the description of your lens, it sounds like you'll need a bipost to household (male) (you didn't specify the make of your flash unit, but this would be correct for a Graflex). Paramount can make any length cord, straight wire or coiled.

Steve, yes that cord will provide the link between your lens and your flash if, and only if, your lens has M sync. Some of the shutters during that time had an X only sync, which means they could be used only with electronic flash. If yours has both M and X, [the very early ones had only M] and if your shutter has the bi-post plugs, then you're good to go with a cord like that.

It's like the old Hasselblad lenses.

The lens has the words Supermatic (X) on it. It does not a pear to have an M and X sync.

I guess besides buying a new lens I an out of luck.

That's what I was afraid of, Steve. But, don't let me confuse you. I've been talking about compatability with flashbulbs. You can still use it with flashbulbs, but you'll have to use a very slow shutter speed - maybe 1/25 or 1/30.

That shutter does limit your options with bulbs, but remember lots of others don't have X and can't use electronic flash, whereas you can. See some earlier posts here about how to mount them on your camera. And you can order the proper cord for your flash from Paramount. So flash is definately still an option for you.

I guess I am a little confused. I am not interested in using bulbs, I am only interested in using a flash or lights.

So, the X sync will work with a flash?

If I remember correctly that's how the old Hasselblad lenses work.

Steve, the X sync works with electronic flash at any speed on that shutter. You're good to go.

Edit: The cord you will need for a modern electronic flash is a Bi-post to PC cord.

Some monolights may have a flash duration that will require 1/250 or slower shutter speed to prevent under exposure. This shows up when using the full power setting.
