I don't see a PC connector output on the flash; the specs state the triggering methods. It looks to me like you will need both of the connectors from Adorama: mount hot shoe on camera (see below), mount flash on the hot shoe, connect PC/bi-post cord to the PC socket on the shoe, and the bi-post end of the cord to the lens.

For my Century, I fabricated a flash shoe mounting base from brass stock from the hobby shop. There is no doubt something available from commercial sources, but I had the tools. It was a fairly straightforward measure-cut-and-solder job. I mounted the base on the top of the camera over the Kalart, using existing holes that a previous owner had created for some accessory or other. You could also use an auxiliary handle/bracket; these usually have a shoe base on top of the handle.

However (and, with your clarification) it appears that another type of shoe is needed, in order to mount the speedlight.

Possibly, the handle affair you mentioned might be gerry rigged--taken apart to use just the shoe and some mounting metal...


Beyond that, someone else had remarked that the end connectors of the two items require an intermediate male-to-male cable: is that your reckoning?

it would seem, then that just some sort of mount is needed to secure it to the top of the SG (we're beginners, too)...

OK, I missed that. You're in luck; you won't need the hot shoe, all you need is the PC to bi-post cable; just hook the PC end of the cord to the flash and the bi-post end to the shutter. Of course, you will need a shoe mount just to hold the flash, and for that you can consider the options I mentioned (make one, buy one, modify one, or use one that comes on an auxiliary handle/bracket). Good luck!

BTW, Paramount (see link in previous post) has a variety of cords, both straight and coiled, in various lengths to suit your particular needs. They will make cords to your specifications. Their stuff is top quality, and as a satisfied customer I can recommend them. Paramount can custom make you a female-hot-shoe-to-female-bi-post cord (work out the details on this page (http://www.paramountcords.com/products.asp?cat=18 , but it'll cost you considerably more than using a plain old shoe mount with the PC-to-bi-post cord.

a sidehandle flash mount is the way to go. Makes SG handling a lot easier. Recommend the Paramount cords. Make sure PC is the correct gender - most likely male.

Good advice, Brian. I have some difficulty calling the PC plug "male" and the jack "female," but I suppose gender is determined by what happens internally. In this day of of LGBT I get all confused.

The Yongnuo pc plug is a mini (2.5mm) male...that, with the bi-post comes out to approx. $35 at Paramount--not worth hassling with making one (virtually no savings whatsoever)...apparently, Paramount has two options for the 2.5mm plug...tip #38 ('microsync') and tip #29 ('sub-mini')...

--are you able to distinguish between the two 2.5mm tips? the users guide with the Yongnuo does not specify...

I think that will keep your flash way too low. Red eye risk. Suggest look for one with riser. eBay always has lots at reasonable prices.
