I just bought an early 4x5 Top-Handle Speed Graphic. It hasn't arrived yet but I'm trying to get a head-start. It needs a lens board, which Paine's Review of Graflex indicates is 3.25x3.25 inches. Is this board the same as 3x4 Anniversary boards or were the early boards unique? Can they be found, or do new ones have to be crafted? Also, I need the pop-up Graphic Sight Finder (folding optical viewfinder). These were of different sizes, to match the film format, according to my 1923 Graflex Camera Catalog. Anyone in particular that might have them, or am I resigned to scouring E-B and swap meets to find one? Any help would be greatly appreciated. _________________ Got first Speed Graphic at 15 (1976).Other kids were using 35mm SLR's. I ran around with flashbulbs and sheet-film holders, I wanted to be Weegee (#2084). |

DHF,
NEVER COMPAIRED A 3X4 ANNY LENSBD TO THE 4X5 BUT IT WOULD BE A MADE OF WOOD, AND SANDPAPER WOULD PROBABLY FIX ANYTHING THAT WAS DIFFERENT! ALTERNITIVE...EASY TO FAB FROM BIRCH PLY AVAIL AT HOBBY SHOPS!
AS FOR THE OLD PRE 1939 POP-UP SIGHT, HAVE SEEN ONLY ONE UP FOR AUCTION, AND I WON THAT ONE ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO.....A FEW PARTS CAMERAS OCCASIONALLY POP UP WITH THEM, BUT EVEN THE CAMERAS ARE HARD TO FIND, AND WHEN FOUND THESE DAYS, USUALLY EXPENSIVE!
I HAVE A 4X5 TOP HANDLE WITH THAT POP-UP I WON ON IT, ONE OF MY FAVORITE CAMERAS IN MY COLLECTION!
HAVE A NICE DAY.......BERT |

Bert,
I guess there's no such thing as "Joe's Antique Graflex Parts"! In the 'old car hobby' there are specialty supply companies (i.e. "Bratton's Antique Model A Parts", etc.).
Thanks anyway. Really appreciate advice from a veteran restorer like you.
Take care,
DHF. |

Hi,
I won 2 different Graflex pop-up sights on the Bay about a year and a half ago. Of course the seller had no idea what they were and they weren't listed as Graflex or Graphic items, just as 'optical sights'.
It may take a little patience but the sights do come up every now and then. Search under many categories!!
Cheers, Bruce |

Bruiser.
Thanks. Good point-stuff on E-B is usually sold by people who don't know how to list the item. I've been scouring that place so much my eyes are bleeding-but I'll keep looking... there's also the big camera show in Mass. in Sept. to look forward to. I should probably try the second sunday show in Jersey. Anyone go to shows anymore? |

I thinkPacific Rim may have a pop-up finder on their website; I've seen it a few times and I suspect that it is still there. You may have to search for it in the miscellaneous categories. Or call Mike there and ask.
