My Graflex 22 and Ciro 35 have flash sync with hot shoes being the connectors used. However, none of the electronic flashes I have will fit the hot shoes. The foot on the flashes are too thick to slide into the shoe. Can anyone tell me what flashes were intended to be used with these cameras? Or better still, is there an adaptor/sync cord that fits the hot shoes with a HH plug on the other end so that I could use my Graflite Jr. and Strobonars on brackets? Thanks. Fred.

those shoes were designed to take the Graflash in all it's variations, which had a metal foot. I wonder if the modern electronic flash units have thicker feet because they are plastic.

You might look for a metal footed adapter, or if it's slight, just pry up the edge of the shoe.

IIRC About a half century back it was more or less common knowlege that the hot shoes of cameras made in countries that used the metric system of measurement had a little more space in the hot shoe than those made in the USA. I recall a friend that couldn't get the flash unit from his Argus C-4 to make a firm contact on another friends Japanese camera while the Japanese flash was just too tight to fit on the Argus.

I had a Vivitar 283 that I installed a metal hot shoe on after the plastic one broke...and it was also too thick for the Graflex hot shoes. I had tried to do some prying on an old Ciroflex I had, but the foot was just way too thick plus the rivets holding the shoes on the Graflex cameras make them even less adaptable to the thick feet.. The Graflex 22, a Model 400, has a Graphex Synchromatic shutter that has sync for M & F lamps plus X (zero-delay for electronic flash) , so I assume there was an electronic flash it would accomodate. Thanks. Fred.
