I have a few questions:
1.I just purchased a Crown Graphic. The S# is 9645xx, the Graphex 135mm Optar lens S# is 7817xx. Could anyone tell me what year this camera was made?
2. What size shutter hole is this lens board?
3. Where can I buy lensboards with Copal 0, or 1 hole already drilled? As I am thinking about buying a new Rodenstock lens for it.
4. How sharp is my Graphex 135mm Optar f4.7 lens?
Anyone please give me some insight on this camers.
I appreciate your help.
Thank you.

"2. What size shutter hole is this lens board?"

It's a #0, I believe.

"3. Where can I buy lensboards with Copal 0, or 1 hole already drilled? As I am thinking about buying a new Rodenstock lens for it."

For lens boards, write to Columbus Cmaera at colscamr@infinet.com. they have them available with Copal #0 hole at $19, more for #1 hole.

4. How sharp is my Graphex 135mm Optar f4.7 lens?

I'm assuming it's clean, no fungus or scratches? Even with minor little problems it should equal or even exceed the sharpness of many lenses made today.

The serial number roughly dates it to 1961-'63. This might have an alpha date code either under on the underside of the cross strut of the focussing track or inside the body opposite the where the side rangfinder went. The code will look something like K1A or similar. Check this site for further info about alpha numeric date codes

Thank you all for your replies. I am more and more confident with my Crown Graphic now. This is my first 4x5, and the only thing I can afford for now. I wish a lot of joys from this simple camera. Please share with me any of your working experiences about this camera. I appreciate your help very much.

Sincerely,

Alex

You have a wonderfull portrate camera and the
4 X 5 format will give you great prints, be aware that 4X5 film costs about as much per sheet to develop as it costs to buy (i.e. about $2.50 a sheet) but the clarity of the negative is worth it.
